RESER SMALL RESEARCH GRANT

Each year RESER organises a Call for a RESER SMALL RESEARCH GRANT to support research cooperation among member teams.

The Objective and Rationale

A group of RESER members can apply for RESERs SMALL RESEARCH GRANT to undertake pilot research required to develop a grant application, to undertake a small research project or to organise a series of events and to examine a research issue of collective interest.

RESER can offer grants of up to a maximum of 3,000 Euros (in 2009) to a group of RESER members (at least three members) who wish to develop a grant application, to undertake a small research project or to organise a series of events to examine a research issue of collective interest. In all cases, the expectation is that at least one output (grant application, working paper, article, book chapter, edited book, authored book) would be produced from the award.

The Application Process

Applications are considered once per year and all applications must be submitted before the 31 st december 2010. Proposals will be considered by the RESER Council and a decision will be made not after january 31st 2011

The RESER SMALL RESEARCH GRANT scheme operates to the following regulations:
1. The scheme is open to current members only and only to individuals who have been full members of RESER for at least three consecutive years for which they have paid membership fee.
2. A RESER Member can only hold one RESER research grant as Principal Applicant over any four year period.
3. Funding is available to undertake a small research project, to develop a large grant application or to establish a research network. A research network consists of at least three RESER members who want to run meetings, workshops and other events to explore a research issue.
4. At least one publication or grant application will be produced as a consequence of the award of a RESER SMALL RESEARCH GRANT. A published paper would normally be presented at a RESER conference and be available on the RESER website.
5. Activities related to the grant have to be undertaken and finalized within 12 months after the winning applicant has been informed about the grant or by the deadline agreed with the RESER Council.
6. Award holders must provide a detailed end-of-award report that will be placed on the RESER website.
7. The Principal Applicant is responsible for the execution of the tasks related to the grant, for the presentation of the results and for the financial management and reporting to the RESER Council (annex 1).

8. Applications in electronic form should be sent to the RESER Secretary. Applicants should state:
  • The reasons for their application (short summary, no more than one page).
  • The type of application and a proposed timetable.
  • Proposed budget with detailed eligible costs.
  • Where relevant, provide details of any other possible sources of finance that have already been explored to obtain funding for this activity.
  • Name of the institution, department, etc. of the Principal applicant and other participating members
  • Title of the proposed research project or research network.
  • Expected results of the Grant and possible benefits to the participants and RESER.

8. The Selection of applications and decision will be made by the RESER Council and the decision
will be final. No correspondence will be entered into.
9. The RESER Council will review the RESER Grant annually, and a decision to hold an award round will be made before the GA, and will be presented to RESER members for ratification. The expectation is that normally at least one award will be made in any one financial year.
