Patrik Ström graduated from the Göteborg School of Business, Economics and Law at Göteborg University in 1999, with a Master of Science in International Business. In 2003, he obtained a PhD in Business Administration from Roskilde University, Denmark and in 2004 Patrik obtained a PhD in Economic Geography at Göteborg University.

The research project within Economic Geography was supported by the Swedish School of Advanced Asia Pacific Studies (SSAAPS). Patrik has also taught international business and contemporary Japanese political economy at the Göteborg School of Business, Economics and Law.
His research has focused on the internationalization and competitiveness of the Japanese service industry and regional economic development. Patrik has been a visiting researcher at both Keio University in Tokyo and Nippon Institute of Technology in Saitama.

The 'Lagged' Internationalization of Japanese Professional Business Service Firms: Experiences from the UK and Singapore, Göteborg University 2004.
Additionally he has published articles on the Japanese service industry in Social Science Japan Journal (no. 2, 2005), Asia Pacific Business Review (no. 1, 2005) and the Service Industries Journal (no. 3, 2006).
